Suehiro Maruo’s book Shōjo Tsubaki (aka Mr. Arashi’s Amazing Freak Show) has been adapted into an animated film by Hiroshi Harada with a soundtrack by J.A. Seazer, but it has received very little release. In Europe it was marketed under the name Midori, after the main character.

Tokyo City. Mid 50’s. Midori, a 12-year old orphan girl, is rescued by Mr. Arashi, the manager of a freakshow circus. Subject to the freak’s degrading and perferse fantasies, Midori escapes her fate thanks to Wonder Masanitsu, a hypnotist dwarf (lolol), in front of enthusiastic crowds… A cult movie, banned in Japan. Based on the Suehiro Maruo’s “Mr. Arashi’s Amazing Freak Show”!
